Knockout – First Round Updates

golfThe first round of the Challenge Cup and Prelims in the Plate have now been completed, so how are things shaping up, well:

Challenge Cup

Previous winners Jeff Hughes, Neil Brow and Norman Henry have all made it safely through to the second round unscathed.  A tasty tie in the D Lightfoot bracket sees Club Champion, Mark Poland up against bright young thing Marcus Lightfoot, a rematch after Marcus put Mark to the sword last year.  There is an M&H duel in the J Sharpe bracket with Chair, Brian Stott facing off against co-opted member Jamie Hodgkinson.  Recent Partridge Cup winner Lee Horton takes on our previous catering manager Alan Hunt in the M Edmunds bracket with Steve Green facing Captains Prize winner Phil Jones who took Challenge Cup specialist Mal Aird out in round one.

Challenge Plate

The plate has lost some of its fancied pairings early this year with Tommy Briscoe and Graham Poland dumped out by Kennedy and Letford and father and son pairing, Lee and Roger Horton, falling at the feet of Scott Butler and Steve Roberts.  Plate holders, Tom Rowland and Tom Candler negotiated their passage through to the knockout proper against Helsby veterans Tony Williams and Paul Clarke.  There could be a repeat of last years final if they overcome Howard and Jordan Pay and Jon Sharpe and Simon Knight can break through the strong bond partnership of Mal Aird and Andy Sayers. Captain elect Neil Johnson and past Captain Peter Duffy have booked their place in round two, days after winning their prelim against Colin Moss and John Salisbury.
