Knockouts 2016 – Quarter Finals

KnockoutA busy week at Helsby started on Monday the 18th with the conclusion of the latest round of knockouts with winners getting to the Quarter final stage.

Challenge Cup

The premier singles knockout competition at Helsby already has its first Semi finalist in John Cheesbrough.  After taking out Mark Kiberd in the previous round to top his group Cheesbrough took the scalp of reigning Club Champion Mark Poland with a 1 up victory and now awaits the winner of Brian Stott vs Phil Jones. Stott took out Helsby Vet Norman Henry in his quest to reach his 2nd final in 3 years with Jones beating Colin Bergstrand.  Denver Brazier got the better of Captain elect Neil Johnson in the M Edmunds Group and now faces Mike Branigan who won the R Edghill group thanks to his victory over Alan Hunt.  Its a past junior Captain duel at the bottom of the draw with Charlie Fletcher taking on Simon Pay.  Fletcher took out past winner Jeff Hughes with Pay howling to a 7&6 victory against Alan Rigby.

The impressive team of Nathan Kennedy and Dean Letford made easy work of Chris Stott and Jaime Hodgkinson to setup a group final Vs father and son duo Howard and Jordan Pay who defeated last years finalists Jon Sharpe and Simon Knight.  Stephen Daley and Alan Paynter face Charlie Fletcher and Alan Rigby who are hoping to win their own group.  Phil Barker and John Cummins continue their impressive run and now face in form new pairing Brian McNamara and Joe Gleave who got the better of Peters and Shingler in round 2.  Helsby good guy Tommy Farr and Martin Wood now face Peter Jackson and Paul Trow who are taking scalp after scalp after their victory over Brian Stott and Captains 3rd placer Ryan Edghill.
