The first proper competition of 2017 and the realisation that Winter really is a miserable season. Although remaining mainly dry the murky dull light and previous weeks weather brought to end the run of crisp dry Winter days. So pre game expectations were set that no one would be getting close to the 40 point mark of previous comps, how wrong! Once again 60% of the field got to 32 points, with the usual 16 holes in play, with only 18 players failing to record 30 points or more. So the bar was again exceptionally high, with 3rd place on CPO Noel Robertson completing the back 8 in level par translating to 39 points overall. Easily securing 2nd and surely expecting to win was Adam Griffiths with a magnificent 41 points including 2 birdies on 2 and 18 and a 1 over back 8. However everyones score was eclipsed by winner Paul Bladdens unheard of 44 points for 16 holes. After a disappointing 19 points on the front 8, Bladden picked up the pace from 10 after birdie, to complete the back 8 in a remarkable 25 points and a well deserved victory.
