Daily Mail Foursomes

bhbzmnThe Daily Mail Foursomes is a competition as old as the dawn of time, with the winners representing Helsby in the national Daily Mail Foursomes knockout the following Year.  This Year we are represented by Glen Makin and Noel Robertson after their 69.0 pipped Denver Brazier and Jeff Hughes’s 71.0.

Well what a day to contest 2017s title, sunny weather, polos a plenty and no rain.  A chilly dewy start attracted a strong morning field with Paul Saxon and partner Paul Bladen with a team handicap of 14.5 posted a highly competitive 69.5.  Russ Cook and Neil Rowlands went 3 better to sign for a hugely impressive 66.5 with finishing a birdie, bogey, par full house finish to claim 3rd place overall.  Cook & Rowlands score would go on to hold off threats from Tommy Farr & Mal Aird, 69.0, and Joe Gleave and Martin Woods 67.5 which they finished off with a birdie on the last.  David Perry and Brian Kennerley again showed good winter form to take 2nd overall with a 66.0 thanks to their solid 6 over par gross front nine.  However the morning and indeed the whole competition belonged to Stuart Welch and Dave Bunting who, with a handicap of 14.0, completed a staggering 62.0, nine better than par.  The crux of the round occurring between 6 and 14 with the team dropping just one shot on the Par 4 9th.

Thanks to our new Club V1 system we can finally start to bring team and knockout competition results to the masses, and post to howdidido.  The Daily Mail Foursomes is the first competition at Helsby we have used for this and it looks great.  We will still be posting on the noticeboard and updating results here and also via the pro shop, aint technology great!
