Centenary Trophy 2016

scratchA glorious day and a glorious trophy awaited competitors in the 2016 centenary trophy.  The trophy is a magnificent porcelain piece hand painted with a depiction of the pond behind the 5th green.  This trophy was first contested in 2001 to celebrate the clubs 100 anniversary.

Last nights heavy downpour had taken away non of the fire from the course and the thick humid air and changeable breeze contributed to the comps CSS of 71.  Some tricky pin positions also played havoc with competitors leaving two holes un-birdied, the SI 1 5th and surprisingly the par 3 6th hole.  The 6th was cut in the narrowest portion of the green, 23 on and in the shadow of both the trees at the top of the first incline, this made break reading and pace control quite tricky but presented an enjoyable challenge.

First notable score in was from marvelous Bal Matu who signed for a quality 67 and what looked like a second win after he took last years novice bowl.  Matu would be pipped to the title by the 3rd last group which contained an on fire Mark Stonely.  Stonely improved Matu by 1 having gone out in 2 over gross he returned in -1 despite a little bit of trouble at 17.  Stonley also improves his OOM position and eclectic with birdies at 2, 10 and 14.

Also a mention to Chris Davies holding his tee shot on 18!!! That’s the 205 yard par 3 with the pin at the front of the green, a fine effort.  Chris also wins a Hugo Boss watch courtesy of Howdidido to reward and remember his ace.
